There are a wide variety of free radio stations and online music services through which music fans can listen to the tunes they love. One of the most popular of these is Pandora, a website that serves not only as an online radio service, but also as a music recommendation vehicle. The service is easy to use; the listener gives the name of a song or artist that they enjoy and Pandora creates a station that plays songs and artists that are considered "similar" based on a number of different factors. Listeners can tell Pandora which songs they like and which they don’t really care for, allowing Pandora to refine the song selection for that station to better fit the listener’s tastes. Users can access the service via Pandora.com or their iPhone.
Although Pandora is currently available as a free service for most users, a segment will be receiving audio commercials interspersed in their playlists. Now when players listen to music, they have a chance of having a 15-second spot played between songs. Those users who are targeted by this new campaign can expect to hear an ad for about every two hours of music played. While this might jar a bit if you’re listening to peaceful choral pieces, the ratio of music to advertising is remarkably low. Most listeners probably won’t have a problem with the brief interruptions.
