6 Simple Steps to Creating Good Habits

Everyone has bad habits – what are yours? There could be so many: smoking, drinking, biting your nails, overeating, etc. Habits are always associated with the bad ones, what about the good ones? Successful people use habits as part of their routine. Their focus lies in cultivating positive habits, ones which are related to achieving their goals. Try this approach:

1. List down all the habits you already have. Make two separate lists: the good ones and the bad ones.

2. Next, consider the goals you have set for certain aspects of life. Identify the actions you would need to take to achieve them.

3. Identify regular practices that could help you achieve these things, considering how a few daily habits to support them would help attain them faster. Jot down two or three for each goal. Keep it simple and not too demanding.

4. Zone in what you would like to achieve as a priority. Select one or two of the habits on the list that would benefit this priority. These are the habits you must develop first.

5. You must spend the next month doing you just identified. It will soon become part and parcel of your life: a habit. To ensure you cultivate this habit, put it on a journal or task list and mark it off when completed.

6. Once you establish this habit, move on to the next on the list and keep repeating the process.
This could take perseverance on your part, but the benefits are great. Once you have the good habits established, you can start on eliminating the bad ones.
