Arthritis comes in many forms and Gout in particular is very painful. Usually this afflicts mainly middle aged men, but women are not spared by any means. Generally gout appears in the big toe and then spread all over the body. It can also appear in fingers, elbows, etc. Basically all the major joints in the human body.
While medication will help with this painful affliction, there are other simpler methods you can resort to in order to get relief. This basically refers to avoiding aggravation of the condition. Food can be a great aggravator, depending on what your intake is.
Red meat is one of the worst things you can eat if you have gout. Although it has a lot of protein, it is also full of Purine. This substance can lead to increased levels of uric acid in your system. This in turn will aggravate your gout or increase your chances of getting the disease.
Seafood maybe great for your heart due to the Omega 3 fish oils, but it is unfortunately bad for gout. Yeast is also another culprit in aggravating the disease. This means that you have to avoid bread, beer and alcohol to stay clear of this substance.
Dairy is one thing that you can indulge in. It can actually bring down the chances of you getting this painful disease. Yoghurt, low fat cheese and milk are all good products to have if you have gout or if you want to avoid it. Another thing you can do is fill up on antioxidants, as these too will help you battle or prevent gout.
