History of Injection Molding

In today’s world of manufacturing, plastics injection molding is a useful tool for creating a wide range of items, from tiny buttons to the large side panels of the vehicles we drive every day. The history of injection molding actually dates back to 1872, almost forty years before the creation of the first synthetic plastic. The first injection molding machine was created by the Hyatt brothers. It was a far simpler process than is commonly used today.

The injection molding industry really gained ground during World War II, as the demand for affordable bulk-produced items grew. The first screw injection machine was built during this period, allowing for much more control over the process. It is still the most common type of machine used by the industry.

Today, clear plastic containers and other plastic items are an ever-present part of modern life. Injection molding remains an important plastic manufacturing process.
